Why the kitty?

Every campaign has a story. This one’s just a little furrier.

This little tuxedo kitty tells the story of the kind of leadership I believe in—and because every part of the logo means something.

Building on a good idea

If you followed Pete Macedo’s 2025 mayoral campaign, you might remember the orange kitty kneading dough.

Pete built his campaign around the idea that Blacksburg “kneads” change.

As a baker, he explained that kneading dough takes patience, care, and persistence. It’s how something ordinary becomes stronger and ready to grow.

I had the privilege of serving as Pete’s Volunteer Coordinator during that campaign, and that message has stayed with me.

When I began designing my own campaign, I wanted to build on that story while making it my own.

Meet My Campaign Buddy

I love cats. One of my own little buddies is a tuxedo cat, so I introduced a tuxie.

Pete’s kitty kneaded dough. Mine writes stories. Because I believe we’re writing the next chapter of Blacksburg’s story together.

The open book and quill represent the future we are writing together as a community. The gold heart and raised paw reflect something even more important: the values that guide how I lead.

Every detail has meaning.

The Book

A new chapter for our community.

The Quill

Thoughtful leadership and careful decision-making.

The Heart

Leading with compassion and putting people first.

Head. Heart. Hands.

Growing up in 4-H, I learned a simple idea that’s stayed with me ever since. Good leadership uses all three.

Head

Think carefully.

Ask questions.

Make thoughtful decisions.

Heart

Care about people.

Listen.

Lead with empathy.

Hands

Do the work.

Serve your community.

Follow through.

More than a mascot

The kitty isn’t just a fun logo. It’s a reminder that communities aren’t built overnight.

Whether you’re kneading dough, writing a new chapter, or helping neighbors solve problems… the best things happen when people work together. That’s the kind of Blacksburg I believe in.
